21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

For several years now, our church has been participating in a corporate fast near the beginning of each year. This year, our 21-day fast will kick off on Monday, January 13th and end with a feast on Sunday, February 2nd.

As we prepare to fast as a church, I’ve been reflecting on Philippians 1:6. “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” We often start new years with goals and resolutions – commitments to pray more or fast more or discipline ourselves more in our faith – and all of these are good things. But I want to remind you that we don’t do these things as an end unto themselves, and we certainly aren’t in this alone! Jesus himself is the author and the finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

When we fast and pray, we actively make room in our lives to listen to God’s voice and respond to His call. This isn’t just about giving up food or comfort. It isn’t about checking off a religious box. Instead, it’s about making prayer our priority and saying YES to the invitation to depend more on Him.

Whatever you choose to fast over this 21-day period, I invite you to commit to be in God’s presence, feast on His word, and worship Him daily, removing excess clutter from your life so you can devote yourself to listening to God’s voice.

I am so excited for what God is going to do in you and through you, church family! I pray that you fall more in love with God during this time and receive clarity in His presence.

Blessings,

Pastor Lance Ratze
